Collection: Masks & Shields

Masks in Papua New Guinea represent the spirits of totemic names. Some masks are produced, not to be worn, but are mounted in men’s ceremonial houses and on house gables. Masks are also used in initiation ceremonies, dancing and performances of cultural rites, and special yam masks are used to decorate large yams. Richly painted shields are never taken into battle but are displayed inside the dwelling to repel greedy spirits from enemy villages. The artworks that we offer for sale are to our best experience and knowledge high quality, authentic and guaranteed as described.
