Diorama "Cyprinidae"


Victorian era 1837-1901, private collection from England.

This enchanting old diorama holds a common roach (Rutilus rutilus). A magnificent underwater still life has been built inside this diorama with a painted hay, reed and canes. Painted background with view of underwater lake/sea. Three sides with original glass. Front glass with (almost faded) painted text:

"ROACH 1 1/2 LBS"

Diorama is in good condition. Age-related wear. All glasses intact. Dust and dirt. Size approx. 49cm x 29,5cm x 9,5cm.
