Mineral "Citrine"

Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, private collection from Netherlands.

Citrine is a variety of quartz whose color ranges from pale yellow to brown due to a submicroscopic distribution of colloid ferric hydroxide impurities. Natural citrines are rare; most commercial citrines are heat-treated amethysts or smoky quartzes. However, a heat-treated amethyst will have small lines in the crystal, as opposed to a natural citrine's smoky or cloudy appearance. The condition of this bright yellow citrine crystal geode is good. Age-related wear, fractures and minor cracks may appear. Dirt and dust may exist. Size approx. 3,4cm x 4,9cm x 2,5cm. Weight c. 53g.
